Telkom University integrates sustainability into higher education through specialized courses, interdisciplinary learning, and energy-focused academic programs. By incorporating sustainability principles across its seven faculties and introducing the Bachelor of Energy Systems Engineering program, the university equips students with the knowledge and skills to address environmental and social challenges. Supported by cross-sector collaboration in line with SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), these initiatives connect education with practical solutions for a more sustainable future.
From kindergarten classrooms in Cianjur to a landslide-prone village in Banyumas, Telkom University is helping local communities understand climate change and prepare for it. In 2025, its lecturers and students ran local education programmes and campaigns on disaster risk, early warning, clean energy and waste reduction for children, teachers, village officials and residents. Together, these environmental education measures bring climate knowledge directly to the communities most exposed to its effects.
To ensure accurate and sustainable water resource management, Telkom University implements a comprehensive water measurement system across its campus. Each month, the volume of water extracted from individual artesian wells is recorded through water meters installed at each production site. These measurements are subsequently compiled to monitor overall water consumption throughout the university.
Telkom University advances its energy transition through an Energy Divestment Policy that promotes reduced reliance on fossil fuels and greater investment in renewable energy. Supported by vehicle-free initiatives, the Energy Systems Engineering program, and carbon footprint assessments, these efforts strengthen the university's commitment to clean energy and carbon accountability in line with SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy.
Telkom University strengthens its commitment to carbon emission reduction through technological innovation, energy-efficient infrastructure, green mobility, and campus greening initiatives. Supported by automated building systems, vehicle-free policies, electric transportation, and environmental management programs, these efforts promote a lower-carbon campus while contributing to SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 13: Climate Action.
elkom University continues to foster the development of innovative technologies that address environmental challenges while promoting sustainable resource management. Through its integrated research and innovation ecosystem, the university has introduced several pioneering solutions across water management, sustainable agriculture, waste processing, and clean energy.
Telkom University strengthens energy efficiency through regular energy audits, IoT-based monitoring, smart building technologies, and renewable energy development. Supported by the Intelligent Energy Management System (IEMS), LED upgrades, and community-based energy initiatives, these efforts aim to reduce energy waste, improve campus operations, and support SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 13: Climate Action.
Throughout 2025, Telkom University strengthened its policy development for clean energy technology, supporting decision-makers from villages to the international stage. The university served on West Java’s RAD-SDGs 2025–2030 expert team, carried out energy research funded by BRIN and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, and built community biodigesters in Boyolali. It is also developing a biogas and hydrogen safety SOP with Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah.
Through its sustainable practices remote working policy, Telkom University applies a hybrid model of four office days and one remote day across all four campuses. It also allows work from anywhere around the Nyepi and Eid al-Fitr holidays, reducing commuting and energy use.
In 2025, Telkom University ran 43 energy and community programmes to learn clean energy. Activities ranged from household energy-efficiency education and solar panel installation in schools and pesantren to electric bicycle conversion training, solar-powered farming tools and a biogas digester for farmers, helping communities save energy and adopt renewable sources.
Telkom University advances its Energy Efficiency Plan through renewable energy development, smart energy management, and campus greening initiatives. With solar power installations, wind and biogas projects, IoT-based monitoring systems, and the preservation of nine campus forests, the university promotes efficient energy use and carbon reduction in support of SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 13: Climate Action.
Telkom University supports the development of clean and affordable energy (SDG 7) through innovative technologies and sustainable campus initiatives. The university implements renewable energy solutions such as solar panels and electric vehicles while empowering communities through waste-to-energy projects. Dr. Muhammad Ary Murti from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering developed the Intelligent Energy Management System (IEMS), an IoT-based tool for real-time energy monitoring and audits. In collaboration with Volta, Tel-U also established an Electric Vehicle Research Lab and successfully converted conventional motorcycles into electric ones. In 2023, the university further advanced this mission through 31 research publications on renewable energy and sustainable technology.
