Action Plan to Reduce Plastic and Paper Waste at Telkom University

Telkom University is committed to creating a sustainable campus by actively reducing waste, particularly plastic and paper waste. Through a series of initiatives focused on digital solutions, waste reduction, and eco-friendly practices, the university is striving to minimize its environmental footprint. Here’s how Telkom University is implementing an effective action plan to achieve these goals:

Going Paperless for Academic and Non-Academic Activities

Telkom University has embraced a paperless approach, reducing paper waste significantly across both academic and administrative operations. The university now primarily uploads midterm and final exams, as well as student assignments, in digital formats to its Learning Management System (LMS). By digitizing these processes, Telkom University not only saves paper but also ensures that all coursework and submissions are accessible in an eco-friendly manner. This initiative represents a major shift towards sustainability in academic practices.

Digital Academic Services and Administrative Correspondence

Telkom University has transitioned its academic services and correspondence to digital platforms, eliminating the need for paper documentation. All administrative processes are managed through 100% paperless applications developed within the SITU framework. Key applications include i-gracias for academic processes, SIMKUG for finance, and SIRAMA for student registration, among others. This shift to electronic records, correspondence, and service notes has streamlined workflows while significantly cutting down on paper usage. By utilizing these digital tools, Telkom University is fostering a more sustainable administrative environment.

Non-Gallon Dispensers to Reduce Plastic Waste

To minimize plastic waste, Telkom University has installed non-gallon dispensers that filter tap water directly into drinking water. These dispensers remove harmful chemicals, providing safe, potable water that allows the campus community to refill their tumblers or reusable bottles. By offering this refill option, the university encourages students, faculty, and staff to move away from single-use plastic water bottles, promoting a sustainable habit that reduces plastic waste.

Moving Towards a Sustainable Campus

Telkom University’s action plan to reduce plastic and paper waste reflects its dedication to environmental sustainability. By implementing digital solutions, reducing single-use plastic, and promoting eco-friendly practices, the university is taking measurable steps to minimize waste and create a greener campus. These efforts contribute not only to waste reduction but also to fostering an environmentally conscious community at Telkom University.
