Advancing Renewable Energy Innovation: Telkom University’s Collaborative Efforts Toward SDG 7

Telkom University demonstrates its unwavering commitment to sustainability by publishing progress against SDG 7, Affordable and Clean Energy, both individually and within its comprehensive annual sustainability report. This initiative highlights the university’s dedication to promoting renewable energy innovation, energy efficiency, and environmentally responsible technologies that align with national and global energy transition goals.

The Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Dr. AnggaRusdinar, emphasized that electric vehicles will become a future necessity, especially as fossil fuel resources continue to decline. Reflecting this forward-looking vision, Telkom University produced 31 research publications in 2024 focusing on clean energy, energy efficiency, and renewable technology, alongside 18 additional papers presented in accredited journals and international conferences.

One of Telkom University’s most notable community-based renewable energy initiatives is the revitalization of the Sampalan Indah Swimming Pool in Baros Village, Bandung Regency. Once abandoned due to management challenges, the site was transformed, through collaboration between Telkom University and PT Telkom Indonesia, into a renewable energy pilot project. The installation includes a 500 W wind turbine and six solar panels with a combined capacity of 2.5 kW, which together generate clean electricity to power a water pump system, providing residents with reliable access to clean water. Beyond delivering sustainable energy, the site functions as an educational and research center, allowing students and researchers to study renewable technologies in real-world settings. This project directly supports SDG 7, Affordable and Clean Energy, showcasing how digital innovation and community partnership can expand access to sustainable energy in rural areas.

In the realm of research and technological advancement, Telkom University’s experts have developed several cutting-edge innovations, including machine learning-based battery health prediction for electric vehicles, AI-driven optimization algorithms for power grid operations, and enhanced generator scheduling through advanced optimization methods. These studies demonstrate the university’s significant contribution to advancing smart and sustainable energy systems.

By integrating the Publication of SDG Reports, per SDG approach, Telkom University ensures transparency, accountability, and measurable progress in its sustainability journey. These collective efforts strengthen the university’s position as a leading institution in renewable energy research, sustainable innovation, and collaborative environmental stewardship.
