Telkom University continues to promote Indonesia’s cultural richness and diversity through a wide range of art and heritage initiatives. These programs are designed to preserve cultural traditions, empower student creativity, and strengthen community connections all of which contribute to the spirit of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
The following highlights illustrate the university’s commitment to fostering cultural sustainability and inclusive community engagement.
Cultural Festivals Celebrating Regional Heritage
Telkom University organizes annual festivals that celebrate Indonesia’s diverse cultural heritage. Events such as Festival Seni dan Budaya Sulawesi Selatan, Festival Sumatera (FESTRA), and Alek RumahGadang presented traditional dances, music, and poetry from various provinces.
The BenuaEtam Festival and CENDRAWAKU also became significant milestones, featuring art performances from Kalimantan, Maluku, Papua, and East Nusa Tenggara. These festivals unite students and communities, creating a platform that promotes inclusion and respect for cultural identity.
Performing Arts and International Recognition
The Telkom University Choir represented Indonesia at the 70th International Choral Contest “Habaneras & Polyphony” in Torrevieja, Spain, showcasing the nation’s musical excellence on a global stage.
Locally, the choir also performed in the 8th Annual Concert “Amazing Memor10: A Blast From the Past” and the Pre-Competition Concert Towards Penabur International Choir Festival 2024. Meanwhile, TeaterTitik’s production ResitalJabangTitik 11: Lena TakPulang displayed the strength of student theatre in exploring social and cultural narratives.
Cultural Discussions and Educational Workshops
Telkom University provides academic platforms to deepen cultural understanding through events such as the Seminar Kebudayaan Aceh: Djaddawadjaddi, meunan ta nietmeunanjadi and DiskusiBudaya Sulawesi.
Collaborative programs with Nippon Bunka-Bu including Open Mind and Inagurashi: Saisonkei x DNA Fest encouraged cultural exchange between Indonesia and Japan, promoting awareness, inclusion, and cross-cultural learning.
Art Exhibitions and Student Creative Showcases
The university also nurtures creativity through exhibitions and showcases such as Swastamita 2024 and the Karma Exhibition by UKM Kesenian Bali. These programs displayed works in fashion, visual arts, and performance, supporting students to express innovation while honoring tradition.
Such events contribute to the growth of sustainable creative industries and reinforce the role of arts in shaping socially connected and culturally rich communities.
A Year of Vibrant Cultural Engagement
In 2023–2024, Telkom University successfully organized over 40 public art and cultural performances. These included festivals, theatre shows, concerts, and exhibitions representing both local heritage and global collaboration.
By integrating arts into education and community development, the university continues to empower young talents and strengthen cultural sustainability.
Through its extensive range of cultural programs, performances, and partnerships, Telkom University has demonstrated a strong dedication to advancing Indonesia’s arts and heritage landscape. By facilitating festivals, theatre productions, and international collaborations, the university ensures that students and the wider community remain actively engaged in cultural preservation and creative expression.
