Telkom University actively promotes remote working and hybrid learning practices as part of its digital transformation and sustainability strategy. Guided by the Telkom University Academic Guidelines (Pedoman Akademik 2024) and the Flexible Working Arrangement (FWA) Policy 2024 established by Yayasan Pendidikan Telkom (YPT), the university implements flexible learning and working systems designed to enhance productivity, engagement, and work–life balance.
Flexible Learning for a Smart and Sustainable Campus
Through the Blended Learning and HyFlex (Hybrid-Flexible) systems, Telkom University enables lecturers and students to participate in academic activities both on campus and remotely via the CeLOE (Center for e-Learning and Open Education) platform.
This digital learning environment integrates synchronous and asynchronous sessions, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility while maintaining academic quality. It allows seamless participation across time and space, reducing physical commuting and paper-based dependency — directly contributing to lower carbon emissions and sustainable education delivery.
Hybrid learning is also aligned with the university’s Digital Green Campus Masterplan, encouraging reduced energy use and optimizing space management while ensuring student wellbeing through flexibility and equal access to education.
Flexible Working Arrangement (FWA) for Employees
For employees, Telkom University adopts the Flexible Working Arrangement (FWA) framework, which officially allows three models of work:
- Working From Office (WFO),
- Working From Anywhere (WFA), and
- Hybrid Working, combining both on-site and remote setups.
Under this framework, flexibility is granted based on job characteristics, unit performance, and employee wellbeing. The FWA policy emphasizes key principles such as sustainability performance, trust-based management, and work–life integration, ensuring that every working model supports efficiency and institutional goals
Employees can apply for WFH or hybrid schedules through the SDM website platform, which provides a digital interface for submitting and tracking flexible work requests. Additionally, the university issues periodic NDE circulars from the Rector regarding WFH–WFO recommendations as institutional evidence of its ongoing support for flexible work culture.
Digital tools — including cloud collaboration systems, secure ICT infrastructure, and virtual coordination platforms — are utilized to ensure that telecommuting remains efficient, secure, and well-integrated within Telkom University’s operational ecosystem.
Commitment to Well-being and Climate Action
By institutionalizing flexible learning and working practices, Telkom University fosters a healthier, more balanced lifestyle for both students and staff. These policies effectively reduce daily commuting, lower emissions, and support digital sustainability goals, aligning with the university’s commitment to SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
This initiative demonstrates how higher education institutions can adapt to modern digital ecosystems while advancing climate-conscious practices, ensuring that innovation, wellbeing, and sustainability progress hand in hand.
