Telkom University’s Faculty of Industrial Engineering (FRI) reinforces its commitment to advancing public literacy in Indonesia by fostering collaboration among independent libraries, reading communities, and academic partners. This initiative gathers groups including The Room 19 Library, Dr. Long Midnight Reading Club, Bandung Book Party, Teman Baca Ibu, Kumbang Book Club, Baca di Bandung, Literasa, Read Aloud Bandung Community, and Salman Reading Corner.
The program was held at Graha Pustakola, West Java Provincial Library and Archives Building, bringing together representatives from community literacy groups, independent libraries, Telkom University students, and faculty members. Participants engaged in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to develop and refine the Salira Literacy Center Platform, a collaborative pentahelix media designed to enhance literacy levels throughout West Java.
Through this program, participants explore ways to expand and activate independent literacy networks. Salira serves as an innovative platform offering access to reading materials, literacy training, and collaborative forums. Feedback from community representatives during the FGD highlighted opportunities to improve user experience, including streamlining the platform’s registration process.
In parallel with community efforts, Telkom University has enhanced student literacy activities by integrating an SDGs-based learning curriculum. This curriculum employs a course-specific evaluation matrix for assessment and incorporates active learning methodologies such as Project-Based Learning and Case Study Problem approaches. These methods enable students to engage deeply with real-world literacy challenges, fostering practical skills and social awareness aligned with the university’s mission.
This community-driven initiative and academic innovation reflect Telkom University’s holistic approach to literacy development, emphasizing partnership among academia, government, communities, businesses, and media. By strengthening these collaborative ties, Telkom University aims to build an inclusive and sustainable literacy ecosystem, empowering communities across Indonesia.
This initiative aligns with the principles of SDG 17, highlighting how partnerships amplify the impact of educational programs. Telkom University’s dedication to collaborative literacy efforts exemplifies the power of shared knowledge and collective action in building a more literate and informed society.
