Telkom University, through the Faculty of Industrial Engineering (FRI), conducted a Community Service (Abdimas) activity in collaboration with the Indonesian Blind Union (Pertuni) of West Java. This Abdimas activity aimed to provide mobile app training for visually impaired friends at Wiyata Guna and Cicendo Eye Hospital in West Java.
Dr. Ir. Luciana, the Vice Dean II of FRI, participated in the first meeting between FRI and Pertuni, which was held online. She expressed that the collaboration between these three institutions could inspire others to participate in efforts to improve the quality of life for disabled individuals in Indonesia.
The. mobile app training for visually impaired friends was supported by students from Tel-U's FRI. After conducting several weeks of desktop research, the Tel-U Abdimas team found that several mobile apps for the blind or visually impaired are urgently needed and, together with Pertuni, they aimed to utilize these apps to help improve the daily lives of the visually impaired.
This community service initiative is expected to provide Tel-U students with a humanitarian perspective through direct interaction with visually impaired individuals. This activity also opens opportunities for practical research on FRI, allowing the faculty to directly contribute solutions to the daily challenges faced by visually impaired friends in Bandung, West Java.
Telkom University (Tel-U), through the Digital Collaboration for Sustainability (DCS), in collaboration with PT Bhakti Unggul Teknovasi (BUT), held a handover ceremony for an innovative product called the SIBIKU application. This application is designed to help students with hearing and speech impairments learn sign language at the State Special School for the Deaf (SLBN B) in Sumedang, located in Licin Village, Cimalaka District, Sumedang Regency. This event was organized as part of Tel-U's initiative to contribute to the achievement of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly focusing on Quality Education and Reduced Inequalities. DCS Telkom University serves as an SDGs Center that emphasizes collaboration in the development and use of digital technology for sustainability. One of the ways this is implemented is through a CSR program in collaboration with BUT, by delivering the innovative SIBIKU application to SLBN B Sumedang, aimed at assisting children with disabilities in learning sign language.
The Vice-Rector for Research, Innovation, and Cooperation, Dr. Ir. Rina Pudji Astuti, M.T., stated that SIBIKU is one of the many research projects at Tel-U designed to help the community. The presence of SIBIKU is expected to bring new enthusiasm to students in their learning process.
The SIBIKU innovation was developed by the Interactive Programming Expertise Group at the Faculty of Applied Sciences (FIT) Tel-U, led by Mia Rosmiati, S.Si., M.T., together with FIT lecturers Indra Azimi, S.T., M.T., and Erda Guslinar Perdana, S.T., M.T., as well as two students, Muhammad Fikri Fadillah (D3 Software Engineering) and Nurhidayah Puteri (D3 Informatics Engineering).
With the SIBIKU application, it is hoped that it will assist teachers and students at SLBN B Sumedang in interacting more effectively, thereby reducing social disparities and improving the quality of education at SLBN B Sumedang. Looking ahead, it is expected that Tel-U will continue to provide the best contributions to the country and the world.
