Telkom University Advances Energy Efficiency in Campus Buildings Through the Digital Green Campus Masterplan

Telkom University continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainability by enhancing energy efficiency across its campus facilities, in alignment with the Digital Green Campus Masterplan. This initiative represents the university’s strategic effort to create an environmentally responsible, energy-conscious academic environment that reflects innovation and sustainability in every aspect of campus life.

As part of this initiative, Telkom University has launched an extensive energy efficiency program that focuses on both preventive measures and awareness-building within the academic community. The program emphasizes the importance of responsible energy use and aims to cultivate behavioral change among students, staff, and faculty members. Through various campaigns and improvements, the university is working to ensure that energy-saving practices become an integral part of everyday operations.

The implementation of energy efficiency within Telkom University buildings involves a comprehensive set of improvements. The university has replaced conventional lighting with LED systems, constructed new buildings equipped with automatic lighting, and upgraded classroom technology by substituting traditional projectors with LED display screens. To optimize air conditioning performance, energy efficiency has been enhanced through the integration of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and temperature sensors, enabling automatic adjustments that reduce unnecessary power usage. In addition, Telkom University is actively exploring and utilizing renewable energy sources, including the development of wind and waste-to-energy power generation systems, as part of its broader green energy vision.

These collective measures are expected to create a significant positive impact on the environment while supporting the university’s mission to promote sustainable development and well-being within its community. Through gradual yet consistent facility upgrades, Telkom University has already achieved meaningful results in reducing overall energy consumption and improving operational efficiency.

Spanning more than 50 hectares, the Telkom University campus accommodates a diverse range of facilities, including 18 dormitory buildings 10 for male students and 8 for female students along with numerous academic and administrative buildings such as Grha Wiyata Cacuk Sudarijanto A & B, the 10-Story General Lecture Building, Marore, Marampit, Mantewaru, Kawalusu, Intata, and Sebatik Buildings, as well as the Syamsul Ulum Mosque and the iconic Telkom University Landmark Tower (TULT). Each of these facilities has undergone or is undergoing upgrades to align with the standards of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability set forth in the university’s Digital Green Campus framework.

Through these continuous improvements, Telkom University not only enhances the sustainability of its physical infrastructure but also reinforces its position as a pioneer of green innovation in higher education. The university’s efforts contribute directly to the realization of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy).

Conclusion

By integrating technology, innovation, and environmental consciousness, Telkom University exemplifies how a modern academic institution can lead the transition toward a smart, digital, and eco-friendly future.
