Zero Carbon Emission by 2030 Initiative
Through the Zero Carbon Emission by 2030 Initiative, Telkom University targets a 10% annual emission reduction and an overall 31.89% decrease in carbon emissions by 2030. This roadmap aligns with the national agenda for sustainable energy and the university’s own Digital Green Campus Masterplan, ensuring measurable progress toward achieving a carbon-neutral campus. To realize these goals, the university has adopted a structured decarbonization framework encompassing energy transition, reforestation, and green innovation.
These efforts represent not only environmental responsibility but also Telkom University’s active contribution to Indonesia’s net-zero emission target.
Commitment to Renewable Transition
As a concrete step toward this goal, Telkom University is gradually transitioning its energy use from fossil fuels to renewable sources such as solar and wind power. The university’s sustainability roadmap emphasizes investment in clean energy infrastructure, reforestation programs, and green technology innovation.
This initiative is further strengthened by Telkom University’s participation in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, where the university continues to improve its performance in renewable energy adoption and sustainable campus operations.
Investment in Green Education and Research
To ensure that the renewable transition is impactful and sustainable, Telkom University has redirected part of its research funding and investment portfolio toward the development of renewable energy technologies (Energi Baru Terbarukan / EBT).
As part of this effort, the university launched the Bachelor of Energy Systems Engineering (S1 Teknik Sistem Energi) program—an academic initiative designed to integrate renewable energy concepts into both education and applied research.
This program equips students with the technical expertise and leadership skills required to drive the global clean energy transition.
Collaboration and Sustainable Vision
Telkom University actively collaborates with key partners, including the Indonesian Renewable Energy Society (METI), to accelerate renewable energy implementation, promote research collaboration, and support policy development for sustainable power generation.
Through these partnerships, the university fosters collective action to reduce carbon emissions and build a cleaner energy ecosystem for Indonesia.
By combining education, research, investment, and policy collaboration, Telkom University demonstrates a holistic approach to achieving 100% renewable energy reliance. Through its commitment to SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and measurable decarbonization targets, Telkom University continues to support Indonesia’s net-zero transition, inspiring other academic institutions to follow in building a low-carbon and climate-resilient future.
