Telkom University’s Energy Divestment Policy is formally outlined in the Rector’s Decree on Telkom University’s Sustainable Campus Policy No. KR.331/ORG01/SPS-P3I/2024 specifically in Appendix 7, No. 9 (page 11). The decree defines a structured roadmap for the university to gradually reduce and ultimately eliminate the use of energy derived from coal and petroleum, ensuring that all operational and financial practices align with sustainability and decarbonization principles.
A concrete measure under this policy is the Motor Vehicle-Free Day, implemented every Friday from 06:00 to 18:00 WIB across the campus area. This regulation aims to significantly reduce fossil fuel consumption and carbon emissions while fostering a culture of environmental awareness and responsibility within the Telkom University community.
Investment in Renewable Energy and Academic Integration
Beyond operational transformation, Telkom University has committed to divesting all investments from fossil-based industries and redirecting funding toward renewable energy development (Energi Baru Terbarukan/EBT).
This commitment is exemplified through the establishment of the Bachelor of Energy Systems Engineering (S1 Teknik Sistem Energi) program — an academic initiative designed to promote innovation, research, and human capital development in the field of clean and sustainable energy systems.
The university also integrates energy sustainability principles into its curriculum and research activities, ensuring that future engineers and scientists are equipped to lead Indonesia’s clean energy transition. As part of its carbon management strategy, Telkom University has conducted carbon footprint assessments in accordance with SNI 7724:2019 standards, earning official recognition certificates from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK). These achievements demonstrate measurable progress in institutional carbon accountability and environmental responsibility.
Driving the Clean Energy Transformation
Through its integrated Energy Divestment Policy, Telkom University ensures that its financial, operational, and academic directions are harmonized toward sustainable growth and energy transformation. By divesting from fossil energy and investing in renewable solutions, the university sets an example for higher education institutions nationwide. In doing so, Telkom University not only advances SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) but also actively supports Indonesia’s net-zero transition demonstrating that academia can lead the way toward a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable future.
