As part of its commitment to environmental sustainability and energy efficiency, Telkom University actively carries out a series of community outreach programs designed to educate and empower local residents about the importance of efficient energy use and the transition toward clean and renewable energy sources.
These initiatives reflect the university’s dedication to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy) and SDG 13 – Climate Action, while fostering awareness and behavioral change within surrounding communities and supporting Indonesia’s net-zero transition.
Community Outreach for Energy Efficiency
Through its community service (Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat / PPM) programs, Telkom University organizes training sessions, workshops, and technology demonstrations that teach practical methods for reducing energy waste and optimizing renewable energy use.Activities recorded in the university’s 2024 Community Service Report include educational campaigns on energy-saving practices, hands-on sessions for clean-energy applications, and collaborative projects with local schools and partner villages. A key initiative involves carbon-footprint measurement and carbon-stock assessment across the Telkom Group and its partner villages, helping communities understand the link between energy consumption, emissions, and environmental impact.
Technology-Based Learning and Innovation
To strengthen understanding and provide real-world experience, Telkom University researchers and students have developed several innovative learning tools, including:
- a portable photovoltaic simulator kit that demonstrates solar-to-electricity conversion,
- an Integrated Electrical Energy Monitoring System (IEMS) showcasing real-time energy tracking and management, and
- a Smart Solar-Panel-Based Irrigation System integrating automation and renewable power for greater water- and energy-efficiency in agriculture.
These tools are used in training and field demonstrations across West Java and other regions, giving local communities direct exposure to clean-energy technologies and their practical benefits.
Empowering Communities Toward a Sustainable Future
Through collaboration between lecturers, students, and local stakeholders, Telkom University’s community service programs provide not only technical knowledge but also behavioral-change education, encouraging residents to adopt sustainable energy habits at home, in schools, and in public facilities. The outreach aligns with Telkom University’s broader Green Campus Strategy, which integrates education, research, and social responsibility to accelerate the national move toward a low-carbon, resilient, and sustainable future—in line with SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and supporting Indonesia’s net-zero transition.
By combining education, technological innovation, and community empowerment, Telkom University demonstrates its leadership in promoting energy efficiency and clean-energy awareness beyond its campus boundaries. These initiatives highlight the university’s enduring commitment to sustainable development, environmental responsibility, and the advancement of Indonesia’s journey toward a greener, energy-efficient, and carbon-neutral society.
