Telkom University Report On Progress of SDGs 1. No Poverty

Poverty is a challenge as well as our shared responsibility. Telkom University collaborate with several entity to provide smart solutions through research, innovations, and various community empowerment activities. Telkom University continuously innovates in support of Sustainable Development Goal 1 to alleviate poverty in the community.

In 2023, Telkom University develops an e-commerce data and machine learning algorithms, led by Dr. Dedy Rahman Wijaya, S.T., M.T, a lecturer from the faculty of Informatic. It is a proxy for poverty levels that can provide faster information than surveys or censuses. The e-commerce dataset is used and this high dimensional data becomes a challenge. Hence, feature selection algorithms are employed to determine the best features before building a machine learning model. Furthermore, three machine learning algorithms such as support vector regression, linear regression, and k-nearest neighbor are compared to predict the poverty rate.

In the same year, Telkom University students developed an innovative application named Intani, which connects farmers with investors to address challenges in the agricultural sector, such as limited access to capital and dependencey on middlemen. The project, which started in September 2022, received recognition in the innovillage program and aims to improe farmer’s financial situations while contributing to the SDG of elimintating poverty and promoting economic growth.

Additionally, in 2023, we released a total of 19 research publications in accredited journals and conferences.
