Telkom University’s Hunger Interventions: Addressing Student Hunger with Accessible Solutions

1. Strategically Located Campus Canteens with Pantries

Telkom University has established seven strategically located canteens across campus, ensuring that they are easily accessible to the entire academic community. These canteens are situated near academic buildings where students, faculty, and staff spend most of their time, making it convenient for them to grab meals without having to travel far.

To further support the needs of the community, these canteens are equipped with pantry facilities. The pantries allow students to store personal food items and access basic kitchen equipment to prepare simple meals. This system encourages students to maintain healthy eating habits even during busy schedules, and it ensures that food is always available when needed. Each canteen is equipped with digital payment system so students can use cashless method as an alternative of payment

2. 24-Hour Vending Machines

Recognizing the diverse schedules of students, including those who stay late on campus or live in dormitories, Telkom University provides vending machines stocked with food and beverages available 24 hours a day. These machines offer quick access to snacks, meals, and drinks at any time, ensuring that students can meet their nutritional needs even outside of regular canteen hours.

The 24-hour availability of these vending machines is crucial in preventing hunger among students who may not have time to visit the canteens during regular hours or for those who may require food after late-night study sessions. This initiative ensures that food access is not limited by time, offering continuous support to the academic community.

3. Kantin Kejujuran: Honesty Canteens with QR-Code Payment

Telkom University has introduced an innovative approach to food access through the “Kantin Kejujuran” (Honesty Canteen). These small food outlets are unique in that they operate on an honor system—students can purchase food without direct supervision. The system is built on trust, where students select their meals and make payments through a convenient QR-code system.

This approach not only provides easy access to affordable food but also fosters a sense of responsibility and trust within the student body. Kantin Kejujuran ensures that students always have an option for a meal or snack, even in cases where they might not have immediate cash on hand, thanks to the QR-code payment system, which is linked to various digital wallets.
