Telkom University’s Initiatives to Promote Sustainable Commuting

As part of its commitment to environmental sustainability, Telkom University continues to develop initiatives that encourage more sustainable commuting within and around its campus. These efforts aim to reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, and create a safer, healthier, and more accessible environment for all members of the university community.

The following programs reflect Telkom University’s proactive steps in integrating environmentally responsible mobility practices into daily campus life.

Enhanced Pedestrian Infrastructure

Telkom University has developed and maintained over 4 kilometers of pedestrian pathways that connect key areas such as lecture halls, dormitories, cafeterias, and recreational zones. These pathways are complemented with green corridors, shaded trees, benches, and lighting systems, designed to ensure safety and comfort for both students and staff.

By prioritizing walkability, the university reduces internal vehicle traffic, minimizes pollution, and promotes an active lifestyle as part of its sustainable campus design approach.

"Walk on Campus” Awareness Campaigns

To foster a culture of sustainable mobility, Telkom University regularly runs its “Walk on Campus” campaign, which encourages students and staff to walk or cycle instead of using motorized vehicles for short distances.

The campaign has engaged more than 10,000 students through social media and on-campus activities, featuring creative challenges, informational content, and photo-sharing initiatives that promote health, community interaction, and environmental responsibility.

Through these campaigns, walking has become not only a means of transport but also a shared expression of the university’s collective effort toward a cleaner and more connected campus life.

Electric Vehicle (EV) Service Around Campus

Telkom University has introduced electric vehicle units that serve as eco-friendly shuttles to transport students and staff between main buildings, parking areas, and dormitories. These EVs offer a practical and energy-efficient alternative to conventional transportation, helping to reduce emissions and noise pollution on campus. The service is particularly beneficial for those with mobility challenges, ensuring that accessibility and sustainability are advanced hand in hand.

Through its pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, awareness campaigns, and electric vehicle operations, Telkom University continues to strengthen its position as a modern, environmentally conscious institution.

These initiatives not only make daily commuting safer and more efficient but also contribute to a greener, more inclusive, and livable campus environment reflecting the university’s long-term vision for sustainable growth and community well-being.
