Telkom University’s Innovation and Collaboration for Advancing Community Health

Through the SDGs Report 2024, Telkom University demonstrates its strong commitment to sustainable development by publishing progress against SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being, both individually and within its comprehensive annual report. The university has integrated health innovation, research, and digital empowerment as key components of its contribution to improving community well-being.

One of the most notable research contributions comes from Dr. Yuli’s dissertation, titled“Frame/Event-Based Learning Methods for White Blood Cell Detection in Nailfold Capillary.” This study utilizes image-based artificial intelligence (AI) andneuromorphic camera technology to accurately and efficiently detect white blood cells under the fingernail capillaries. Since the number of white blood cells is a critical indicator of immune response and organ health, this innovation enhances the speed and accuracy of medical diagnostics, supporting early disease detection and preventive healthcare. Through this project, Telkom University contributes to the advancement of AI-driven healthcare technology, aligning closely with the mission of SDG 3.

In 2024, Telkom University also produced 36 scientific publicationsin accredited journals and international conferences addressing SDG 3-related issues, such as medical robotics, fatigue detection, and COVID-19 modeling. Examples include studies on rehabilitation robotics, arrhythmia classification using ECG and machine learning, and AI-based health data modeling. These publications highlight the institution’s commitment to scientific excellence and its contribution to global health research.

Beyond research, Telkom University and Telkom Indonesia, in collaboration with the local government, have implemented a transformative program in CicalengkaWetan Village, West Java. This initiative integrates health innovation, digital literacy, and local economic empowerment. One key outcome is the digital stunting monitoring dashboard, which has improved early nutrition issue detection and accelerated data-based intervention by up to 30%. The program also provides digital business training to over 85 MSME entrepreneurs, with a focus on women’s economic empowerment through technology. This initiative contributes not only to SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) but also supports SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

Furthermore, through the Digital Collaboration for Sustainability (DCS) and the SDGs Center, Telkom University continues to initiate and participate in cross-sectoral dialogues about the SDGs, engaging government agencies, industries, NGOs, and academia. By adopting a penta-helix collaboration model, these dialogues promote the use of digital transformation to improve public health, foster innovation, and enhance societal resilience.

Overall, through the Publication of SDG Reports, per SDG, Telkom University ensures transparent and measurable documentation of its progress against SDG 3, reinforcing its role as an SDG Huband demonstrating how technology, education, and collaboration can drive inclusive health improvement and sustainable development.
