Telkom University Strengthens Climate Adaptation through NGO and Expert Collaboration

As part of its ongoing commitment to sustainability and climate resilience, Telkom University, through its Climate Action Plan, has strengthened collaborations with local governments, NGOs, and community organizations. These partnerships aim to build cross-sector responses to climate change through technology innovation, education, and community empowerment.

Throughout 2024, the university implemented several community-based initiatives designed to address both environmental challenges and social impact. One of the flagship initiatives is the “Aplikasi Donatur FoodBank”, developed in collaboration with Yayasan Akses Mandiri Pangan, which optimizes food redistribution systems and reduces food waste through digital innovation. This initiative not only helps minimize waste but also supports food security for local communities.

In the area of waste management, Telkom University launched the “Digitalisasi Sampah Organik dengan Budidaya Maggot” program in partnership with TPS Antapani Kidul RW 11. This initiative promotes sustainable organic waste processing using maggot cultivation, encouraging local entrepreneurship and circular economy practices.

The university also introduced the “IoT Waste Management to Block and Fuel” project in Desa Baleendah, integrating Internet of Things (IoT) technology to convert waste into renewable energy sources. This innovation demonstrates how digital solutions can play a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions and advancing the transition toward cleaner energy.

To foster environmental awareness among young people, Telkom University organized the “Environmental Boardgame Workshop” with Homeschooling Pewaris Bangsa Bandung, providing an interactive learning platform that enhances students’ understanding of sustainability and environmental stewardship.

Beyond West Java, the university expanded its reach through the Solar Panel Project in Jayapura, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs, advancing renewable energy access and resilience in remote areas. The project provides a sustainable power source for local communities while supporting Indonesia’s national agenda for clean energy transition.

Through these strategic partnerships, Telkom University continues to empower communities in climate adaptation, waste reduction, and sustainability education. These efforts contribute directly to achieving SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), reaffirming the university’s role as a catalyst for inclusive and technology-driven climate solutions.
