Telkom University continues to take active steps in raising awareness and building capacity for climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction through various educational and community engagement initiatives. These efforts reflect the university’s strong commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 13 (Climate Action), focusing on empowering communities with knowledge and technology to anticipate and mitigate environmental challenges.
One of the flagship initiatives supporting this mission is Innovillage, a national social innovation program initiated by Telkom University in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, and PT Telkom Indonesia. The program encourages students to collaborate with local communities in developing technology-based solutions that address pressing social and environmental issues.
According to the Innovillage 2024 Report, numerous student projects focus on renewable energy systems, sustainable agriculture, waste management, and water conservation, directly contributing to climate mitigation and adaptation efforts. Beyond technology implementation, participants conduct educational workshops and local campaigns to promote public understanding of disaster preparedness, sustainability, and climate resilience. These community-centered activities strengthen local capacity and awareness of environmental challenges while fostering innovation and collaboration across regions.
In addition, Telkom University regularly publishes its SDGs Report, which documents the university’s annual contributions, achievements, and measurable progress toward all 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The report includes data-driven evaluations of sustainability practices, research outcomes, and community engagement initiatives, especially those addressing climate change education and environmental resilience. This publication serves as a transparent reflection of the university’s accountability and leadership in promoting sustainability within the academic and public spheres.
Telkom University also implements Abdimas (Pengabdiankepada Masyarakat) programs, where lecturers and students collaborate directly with communities to apply research-based solutions to real-world problems. Many Abdimas projects are designed to strengthen local knowledge about climate adaptation, such as reforestation, renewable energy workshops, and waste reduction campaigns, helping communities build resilience against the effects of global warming.
Through its continued initiatives, Telkom University demonstrates a strong institutional role in advancing climate education and local adaptation, ensuring that knowledge, innovation, and community engagement contribute meaningfully to a sustainable future.
