Telkom University Strengthens Sustainable Mobility Through Green Commuting Initiatives

In support of global sustainability efforts, Telkom University (Tel-U) continues to take progressive steps toward creating an environmentally responsible campus and lowering its carbon footprint. In alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) particularly SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 13 (Climate Action) the university has established measurable targets and initiatives that promote sustainable commuting and eco-friendly mobility among students and staff.

Eco-Friendly Transportation and Infrastructure

To reduce carbon emissions and dependence on fossil fuels, Telkom University has implemented fuel motor vehicle-free days and designed spacious pedestrian walkways that connect every building on campus. These walkable paths not only encourage non-motorized commuting but also enhance safety, accessibility, and the overall green campus environment.

Electric Mobility Solutions

Telkom University (Tel-U) demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainable mobility in line with the SDGs. The university promotes eco-friendly commuting through initiatives such as pedestrian-friendly walkways and the provision of over 200 electric bicycles and vehicles to support low-emission transportation.

The Telkom University Car (TUC TUC) offers free electric shuttle services that connect key campus areas, helping reduce private vehicle use and emissions. In collaboration with Beam Mobility, Tel-U also introduced electric motorcycles (e-scooters) for short-distance, sustainable travel. These innovations serve as efficient, low-emission alternatives to conventional transport, advancing the university’s transition toward clean and renewable energy in daily operations.

Health and Sustainability Campaigns

Complementing its infrastructure and mobility systems, Telkom University launched the TelUtizen Step Together Challenge, a community-wide campaign that encourages walking 10,000 steps daily. This initiative promotes walking as a sustainable, non-motorized mode of commuting that benefits both personal health and the environment.

Integrated Sustainable Mobility Approach

Through these integrated programs combining electric mobility, walking, and behavioral change Telkom University advances its Digital Green Campus Masterplan. This holistic approach not only supports low-emission transportation but also cultivates a culture of environmental awareness and collective responsibility among the Tel-U community.

Through measurable sustainability targets and innovative programs, Telkom University redefines campus mobility as both eco-conscious and community-driven. By integrating walking, cycling, and electric transportation into daily routines, the university exemplifies a model of sustainable living that prioritizes health, environmental stewardship, and long-term climate responsibility all while actively lowering its carbon footprint.
